in the reported experiments, a cotton was double carded at twice the speed as it was single carded, processed into sliver laps, and combed with identical settings. the double carded laps were also combed at two other settings. the increase in carding speed for double carding improved the fiber parallelization, which reduced the comber noil removal and resulted in a more uniform yarn with less spinning end breakage. the amount of flat strips removed with double was not much greater than that removed with single carding. since double carding is a good simulation of tandem carding, the study demonstrates the advantages of using tandem carding and faster carding rates for combed ring yarns. 4 refs
