the paper reports on a study that is part of a long-range research program to investigate each phase of the cotton ginning process as it relates to profit potential for the cotton producer and ginner. the study objectives were to determine the effects of individual processing machines and of numerous combinations of machines on lint quality (classer's grade and staple length) and turnout, and total energy consumed by each machine. data indicated that treatments which included the gin stand and one lint cleaner produced classer's grades among the highest; lint trash contents among the lowest; lint turnouts in the intermediate range; and were among the lowest in energy consumed/lb of seed cotton processed
