osha (occupational safety and health administration) has done a lot of work establishing a new standard of exposure to cotton dust and in giving reasons for it. the movivation is mainly drawn from a medical standpoint. the new standards have initiated much discussion, mainly about their financial impact and their feasibility. also, there are still some questions open concerning the engineering aspects of the problem. the aim of this article is to point out some problems faced by the engineer involved when a mill makes a serious approach toward limiting the maximum dust concentration to 200 $mu$ g/cum. 2 refs
