in the reported experiments, mechanically-cleaned and/or washed cotton card sliver was processed into both ring- and open-end-spun yarn. three yarn counts, two open-end and one ring, were spun ends-down were found to be low for a coarse count open-end yarn and high for a medium count. the ring-spun yarn exhibited mixed ends-down results. rotor residue was shown to significantly decrease, and yarn strength increased slightly with washing. yarn evenness and elongation decreased somewhat with washing. for best spinning, fiber lubricant must be used to assure satisfactory drafting
