Research at Asahi Chemical Industry Company focused on the dry extrusion of cellulose triacetate filament yarns in a solution of acetone. Experiments cooled the mixture of cellulose triacetate and acetone to minus 70 degrees centigrade and then heated the mixture to 50 degrees centigrade with stirring to prepare a stable extrusion solution. From the solution, a large scale, commercially available extruder for cellulose diacetate filament yarns dry extruded cellulose triacetate filament yarns. The resultant cellulose triacetate yarns were almost equivalent in their structural and physical properties to commercially available cellulose triacetate dry extruded from a solution of methylene chloride. 8 refs.
