Ki Whan Kim of the Hanoi Spinning Company Limited patented a new process to manufacture worsted wool yarns on the cotton system at a lower cost with uniform staple lengths. The system includes drawing, roving, and ring spinning machines. A recess cut into the boss deflects the wool sliver, whereas the remaining section of the roll operates normally. The distance between front and back rolls is adjustable from 55-160 millimeters for an even distribution. Processing parameters for a 1/48s worsted wool yarn with an average staple length of 65 millimeters included a roll distance of 120 millimeters, eight doublings, a draft ratio of 8-8.2, and a spindle speed of 8,000 rpm. The resultant yarn had an Uster value of 16.5 percent, a staple length of 120 millimeters, and a mean length of 74.5 millimeters.
