Researchers investigated the effect of several ring spinning machine components--guiding elements, drafting, and winding systems--on yarn quality. An experiment entailed spinning three types of Ne 40/1 yarn (cotton carded, cotton combed, and 55/45 polyester/viscose blend) and testing the yarns for Uster percentage and imperfections, single yarn strength and elongation, and Classimat faults. Results of the spinning trials showed that reducing the top front zone improved yarn uniformity, decreased short and long thin places, lowered imperfection levels and Classimat faults, and improved working performance.
