SITRA studied and compared the blow room, draw frame, and sliver lap methods for blending polyester and cotton fibers. The tests blended both conventional polyester and lower quality polyester fibers in a 67/33 percent blend with cotton fibers and tested the resultant yarns for tenacity, elongation, evenness, imperfections, and Classimat faults. The sliver lap blending methods generated the strongest yarns with the smallest number of yarn imperfections and fewest Classimat long thick and long thin faults. although the sliver lap blending method increased production costs by 1.3 rupees per kilogram, the higher price paid for the higher quality yarn should offset increased production cost. 1 refs.
