A one-dimensional constitutive equation of the integral type described in a convected coordinate system was used to obtain formulas for the velocity distribution, tension, and running time of viscoelastic yarn that runs between the feed-roller and take-up roller in a steady state. The formulas were expressed simply by the creep compliance of yarn, draw ratio, and feed-roller velocity. The predictions of velocity distribution, tension, and running time agreed with experiments on polyethylene terephthalate monofilament yarn. The tension increased with feed-roller velocity and draw ratio. Both calculated and observed curves of velocity distribution along a yarn sloped upward and increased monotonically. However, the observed results were smaller than the calculated ones. 4 refs.
