German spinning mills are looking for flexible machinery at the upcoming ITMA to offset the threat of low cost imports of yarns and fabrics. Cotton yarns from India, Pakistan, Brazil, and Turkey, and synthetic yarns from Taiwan, South Korea, and Malaysia are competing heavily with German yarns. As a result of the strong competition and low price levels, some German firms have gone bankrupt recently. The firms that have not gone bankrupt are looking toward ITMA with the hopes that the latest technology will help them become more competitive. Because of the trend toward producing more specialty yarns, rather than spinning large quantities of yarn, German spinning mills will be looking for more flexible machines that also improve quality and provide more production information.
