UTIT in Italy has developed an integrated system to automate materials transport in the textile industry. One of these systems is installed at Manifattura di Trenta for packaging cotton yarns. The packaging cycle from the production line to the warehouse is described. The cycle initiates at the ring spinning machines and winders, where the bobbins are transported via a conveyor belt to a collecting belt. The bobbins are coded, labeled, and inspected. Defective bobbins are automatically rejected. From the collector belts, the bobbins are loaded onto trucks and transported for packaging into cartons. The cartons are weighed and labeled with product code and other information. The cartons are sealed, palletized, and warehoused.
