The use of robotics and logistics in the design of spinning machines is critical to the reduction of labor costs. Logistics is currently applied to materials transport, but has potential use in integrating production. Spinning presents a special challenge to industrial engineers because the material flow is not constant. Simulation is an important tool in designing logistics links. Rieter's simulation is an important tool in designing logistics links. Rieter's simulation program, CISplan, is descriged. Rieter has also developed such robotics systems for material transport as the ROBOdoff, ROBOlift, and ROBOfil. Rieter's Computer Integrated Spinning centrally controls and monitors these functions and machines. The importance of standardization of the interfaces is emphasized.
