Multitudinous changes in spinning and weaving technology since the 1960s have made it difficult for investors to make purchase decisions. Rotor spinning, originally thought to be superior to ring spinning due to its increased production speed, produces a weaker yarn. When purchasing spinning equipment, the range of counts, energy and labor costs, skills required, and the type of raw materials used must be considered. Friction and air-jet spinning are viable options for spinning mills, depending upon the type of end product required. Air-jet looms are best for producing plain woven cloth, whereas rapiers as useful for the production of dress materials. Multi-phase weaving might be a viable option in the future.
