Dust generated in spinning cotton is a major problem that affects machine performance and the health of workers. Dust levels can be significantly decreased during preparatory processes, such as opening and cleaning, by direct, gentle extraction. Units specifically designed to suction of dust can also be installed at the end of opening lines. Dust removal at the card is important, but not as effective as extraction during opening. Efficiency at the card depends on the quantity of air allocated for suction. Because air is expensive, on the quantity of air allocated for suction. Because air is expensive, economics tends to limit the quantity used. 8 refs.
