Platt Saco Lowell's Type 888 Self-Twist Spinner has economic advantages over conventional methods of long-staple spinning. Since its introduction in 1970, the Self-Twist Spinner has gained its greatest market penetration in the spinning of knitting yarns from high bulk acrylics. The Self-Twist Spinner produces a two-ply false-twist yarn that can be used without further twisting to produce fabrics comparable to those produced with conventionally ring spun yarns. Self-twist spinning reduces the amount and costs of post-spinning operations, thus offering substantial savings.
