Research is currently aimed at extending open end friction spinning is mostly used for coarse yarns. Manmade fibers and the blends can be processed economically with fiber wrapped spinning. Filament wrapped spinning is used for yarns in cut pile fabrics. Automation in open end rotor spinning has been extended to include the sliver supply. Some of the automation in open end rotor spinning has been adapted for other unconventional systems. The economic viability of automation is proven by benefits in yarn quality and downstream processing. The ultimate aim of automation is realized with computer integrated manufacturing. 9 refs.
