Spinning machinery and equipment exhibited at the 1991 ITMA are reviewed. The exhibits of manufacturers of linking systems and bast fiber, open end rotor, and unconventional spinning systems are detailed. Unconventional spinning systems include air jet, friction, wrap, and self-twist spinning systems. SKF has developed a program for retrofitting obsolete ring spinning machines with new drafting systems and spindles. Hollingsworth and Zellweger Uster are marketing a rotor-ring apparatus to spin small samples of fiber, Schubert & Salzer and Truezschler have independently developed nep and trash testers for cotton. SKF's LAB-spinner is a versatile, computerized spin-tester for the laboratory.
