Machinery and equipment for long-staple spinning exhibited at the 1991 ITMA are reviewed. The use of computers with sensors to monitor and control production was the major trend. Many highly flexible and reliable, automated installations were exhibited. High yarn quality, low production and energy costs, and environmental safety were other notable trends. Exhibits from manufacturers of machinery and equipment for wool washing, opening, mixing, feeding, carding, wool combing, tearing and cutting, drawing, and ring spinning are described. Specifications for flyers and rubbing frames are noted. The carding sector includes machinery and equipment for both woolen and semi-worsted yarns.
