The sources of waste lint emissions during yarn production are identified. Waste generation during carding, drawing, and spinning are described. A relationship between fly production and the defect rate in spinning is established. The use of fly removal systems on processing equipment is urged. The development of treatments to improve the resistance of fibers to normal processing is recommended. Such treatments will decrease fly generation, improve the economy of the spinning process, and improve product quality.
