Spinning, winding, and twisting machinery exhibited at ITMA 1991 is reviewed. The major trend was toward a fully automated mill. Critical operations to be automated in transport systems and machines are noted. Other important trends were increased production rates in the card, drawframe, and flyer; increased speeds in ring and open end rotor machines and winders; the se of small ring and rotor diameters; ringframes for short-staple spinning with sliver input; and steaming used on integrated ringframes and winders. Other trends in the transportation and preparation of bales, bale pluckers and openers, blending, cleaning, opening, card feeding, carding, drawframes, combing, roving frames, ring spinning machines, rings, travelers, cots, drafting systems, spindle drives and supports, laboratory equipment, yarn carriers, effect yarn devices, open end rotor machines, air jet machines, friction machines, and wrap machines are noted.
