Fiber migration during spinning significantly affects yarn properties. Based on dynamics, a model of fiber migration was developed. The importance of such factors as fiber length, fineness, and twist was noted. Both tracer fiber experiments and computer simulations confirmed the validity of the model, as well as the extent to which the model applies. The model can be used to predict the migration of fiber blends, and to determine which fiber type migrates to the surface. By controlling migration, yarn breakage during spinning can be minimized. 9 refs.
