Air jet texturing was used on Sirospun yarns to improve the bulk of the parent yarn. The effects of twist in the parent yarn and the effects of overfeed and pressure during texturing on the properties of the textured yarn were examined. Under optimized texturing conditions, excellent texturing and yarn properties were achieved with Sirospun yarns. Although an increase in bulk resulted in a decrease in tenacity, this decrease was kept within acceptable limits. Air jet texturing significantly improved the hand and comfort of Sirospun yarns for use in apparel. 4 refs.
