The ideal spinning process is a total quality management system that starts with raw material selection and continues through all stages to achieve optimal yarn quality. Researchers evaluated a system consisting of a Rieter standard blowroom and carding mill and the latest generation of RSB-D30 drawing machines and R 1 rotor spinning machines. A textile laboratory equipped with high volume instrument, Advanced Fiber Information System, and Zellweger Uster testing machines monitored quality control parameters to achieve machine optimization. Using a blend of cotton from Greece, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Turkey, Mali, East Africa, and Syria, the test mill manufactured a 20 tex rotor spun yarn with a micronaire of 4. Results indicated that with adequate monitoring of raw materials, optimization and supervision of key machines, and systematic quality control, coordinated modern machinery can manufacture well balanced yarns from average raw materials.
