The function of a cop tracking system is to use information from the yarn clearer on the winding machine to analyze the performance of individual spindles on a ring spinning machine. The system aids in the detection of defective spindles in a timely fashion and the evaluation of yarn quality and quantity from each spindle. In particular, rogue spindles are quickly identified. The information can be integrated into other spinning mill data processing systems, such a air conditioning, to further optimize operations. The Federal Institute of Technology's cop tracking system consists of a ring spinning machine, winding machine, personal computer running Microsoft Windows 4.0, and personal computer running OS/2 for graphic display.
