Conventional and innovative false twist texturing processes, when applied to polyester yarns, are considered. In traditional texturing processes, fiber extrusion was followed by draw-twist, and then by texturing. The lag between extrusion and draw-twist was 12 to 24 hours. In new texturing processes, extrusion is followed immediately by simultaneous drawing and texturing (draw-texturing) or conventional texturing processes. Immediate draw-texturing is necessary because of poor shelf life and other unfavorable qualities of undrawn yarn. 20 refs.
