Improving the relatively low quality of yarn from India requires optimizing process parameters in the blowroom; during carding, combing, and drawing; and at the speed frame and ring frame. Conditioning cotton fibers with methyl tro-oxol oil for 24 hours prior to spinning improves cotton fiber bending properties and reduces fly, lapping, and end breaks. Stricter supervision of carding operations involves increased inspection of flat stripping combing and the removal of flat strips from the flannel covered roll. Better maintenance of the metallic clothing in the cylinder, doffer, and flats also improves yarn quality. Using a perforated plate under the combed fleece helps minimize the presence of embedded seeds and reduces the incidence of neps. Proper use of cots and aprons reduces yarn imperfections.
