Sacolwell's CAS and Platt's SAS automated spinning systems are discussed. CAS is a complete system ranging from bale opening to cone winding and automatic waste handling. Platt's SAS system is a partially automated or semi-automated system that uses special drafting and sliver assembly techniques to reduce the number of manual operations between the card and the ring frame. The advantage and problems associated with automated spinning and the influence of automatic on yarn quality are discussed.
