Because webs during transport in the coating process generate dangers electrostatic charges, the reduction of static electricity is necessary. Methods to reduce static elecgricity include grounding machinery and machinery operators. In addition, raising the relative humidity, adding antistant chemicals, and operating air ionizers are common steps to increase conductivity and reduce static build-up. To be effective, ionizers should face the web material while in open air.
When the web touches another surface, such as a roll, the field is suppressed, and the ionizer is useless. Key areas that generate static include the unwinding and winding units, accumulator, and coating zone. The addition of static bars in other areas may be necessary.
