SITRA evaluated the yarn count variation in Indian spinning mills to determine spinning practices that resulted in low count variation and to determine the minimum count CV that could be achieved through process improvements. In order to estimate the present count variation in India, a study was conducted at 14 mills. Detailed investigations were conducted at five mills to determine the process parameters that resulted in low count variation and factors that contributed to count variation . Recommendations for reducing count variation are offered. The survey determined that a CV count of about 2 percent is possible in mills with goods machinery and proper maintenance procedures.
