An overview of current technology for different spinning systems highlights the advantages, disadvantages, and potential developments of ring spinning, compact spinning, rotor spinning, jet spinning, frictional spinning, and selftwist spinning. Preparation, carding, drafting, combing, and prespinning criteria are described for the manufacture of high performance yarn manufacturing systems. Exhibits at ITMA 1999 suggested that compact spinning is the most fruitful area for the development of ring spinning. The MVS 851 jet spinning machine ensures quality and cost effective manufacture of cotton yarns. 7 refs.
