At ITMA 1999, Murata showed its Vortex spinning machines with four line drafting systems and vortex systems to impart twist. In Murata's modified Twin spinning machine, two slivers supplied to the draft unit pass through the spinning nozzles separately to facilitate two-for-one twisting. The DREF 2000 system by Fehrer manufactures both S-twist and Z-twist yarns. It accommodates fibers with staple lengths ranging from 10-120 millimeters and reduces preparation costs by processing coarse sliver for yarn counts of up to Ne 14.5 at production speeds of up to 250 meters per minute. Schlafhorst's Autocoro 288 rotor spinning machine features the new Corobox SE11, a new axial rotor bearing, and a magnetic rotor positioning system. Developments in compact and ring spinning are also discussed.
