To improve jute processing in India, researchers conducted an industry-wide survey, pilot plant experiments, and mill trials to identify specific quality parameter values for fiber selection, carding, drawing, and spinning. Tables describe a sampling plan for evaluating the properties of raw jute fibers; norms for morah weight; batch composition, emulsion application, and piling period; unevenness of carded sliver; a sampling plan for evaluating the quality of carded sliver; causewise loss in the efficiency percentage for machine utilization during carding; unevenness of slivers at the drawing stages; a sampling plan for evaluating the properties of drawing stage sliver; causewise loss in the efficiency percentage for machine utilization at the drawing stage; norms of yarn quality parameters; a sampling plan for evaluating yarn properties; and causewise loss in the efficiency percentage of machine utilization during spinning. 3 refs.
