At ITMA, Zinser, Rieter, Suessen, and other leading ring spinning machine manufacturers exhibited a new compact spinning technology, in which a pneumatic condensing zone follows the drafting zone and suction creates a thin sliver that eliminates the conventional triangular spinning zone. The resultant yarns feature more effectively bound fibers, which increases the smoothness of the yarn surface. New rotor spinning machines from Rieter-Elitex feature a high level of automaion. Suessen and Schlafhorst showed kits for updating older machines. Murata's MJS air jet spinning machine accommodates cotton and polyester/cotton blend yarns at speeds of up to 400 meters per minute. The spinning stability of a 15 tex cotton yarn spun on this machine equals that of open end yarns.
