Spinning machinery shown at ITMA 1999 included Schlafhorst's Corobox SE 11 spinbox with a magnetic rotor positioning system that requires no maintenance and uses no power; Rieter's R20 rotor spinning machine that operates at speeds of up to 220 meters per minute and uses AERObotoc technology for automated rotor cleaning and package changing; Muratec's Murata Vortex 851 MVS air jet spinning machine for cotton that feeds the sliver directly to the drafting device and uses spiraling compressed air at the nozzle tip to spin yarn with properties similar to yarn with actual twist; and Fehrer's DREF 2000 friction spinning machine with six spinning heads. Other displays included Woolmark Company and CSIRO Wool Technology's Solospun spinning technology that allows the use of finer wool yarns to weave light weight fabrics, compact spinning machines, and machines for spinning slub and fancy yarns.
