A forecast of the status of the spinning industry in the 1990s addresses the effect of electronics on automation and product quality. Productivity and speed will lose some of their significance in a fully automated operation. Spinning systems in general have reached the upper limits for speed; other problems are now considered more critical. Major modifications will occur on existing systems, but no new spinning systems are anticipated. Air jet spinning is expected to increase due to its versatility. Ring spinning is expected to decline.
