Short staple spinning systems are described for ring, rotor, air jet, friction, and wrap spinning. These systems are compared for basic yarn structure and properties, raw materials, end product applications, economics, and market penetration. The effect of these systems on such yarn properties as strength, evenness, bulk or volume, the number of fibers in the yarn cross-section, and the minimum fiber length is also examined. 7 refs.
