The relationship between cost and quality in selecting raw cotton for spinning has been redefined as a result of new parameters and specifications. For example, opening and cleaning machinery is now capable of processing inferior cotton, thus prompting an accompanying shift in the grading system. Although spinnability is ultimately the most important property, parameters for spinnability have yet to be developed.
