High humidity in cotton opening rooms, laydown according to growth areas, automatic opening, slow throughput speeds, good housekeeping, good evenness values, and slow roving speeds all contribute to produce the highest quality roving possible. High quality roving enables spindle speeds to attain 16,000 to 18,000 revolutions per minute, with some machines running up to 25,000 revolutions per minute. Modular processing units, traveler cycle concerns, humidity control, and yarn conditioning are discussed.
