Three Japanese spinning machinery manufacturers with distribution centers in Charlotte, North Carolina, are discussed. The UA33G model, the latest version of Howa's ring spinning machine, is capable of practical spindle speeds to 24,000 revolutions per minute. The machine offers automatic doffing, production monitoring, ends down monitoring, automatic end piercing, automated roving, creeling, and piecing, and linkage to winding as well as roving. Murata offers a 802MJS air jet spinning machine that replaces the ring with a jet nozzle to accomplish final yarn formation. The machine can spin a large package directly from a sliver, thereby eliminating both the roving and winding processes. The Toyoda RX100 ring spinning machine may be linked with roving and winding. Automatic doffing is performed by a stationary, frame-mounted doffer capable of handling any ring diameter independent of operator activity.
