Quality assurance in yarn production is ultimately very cost effective because yarn with uniform high quality is sold at a higher price. The cost of raw materials and production is also lowered by using quality assurance data. Uster manufactures a range of sensors, measuring heads, and data systems for on-line quality assurance. Some laboratory testing, however, is still required. The processing sequence is examined for short-staple ring and open end rotor spinning, noting the quality test parameters at each stage. 3 refs.
