The economic considerations of increased spindle speeds are evaluated. Energy costs and gains in production are weighed against increased end-breakages and mechanical failures. The search for the most economic speed for a given count of yarn under prevailing mill conditions was undertaken in one of northern India's best mills. Guidelines for achieving optimal spinning results with minimal energy expenditures are discussed. 5 refs.
