Electrical energy requirements in the spinning mill for carded counts, combed counts, staple fiber counts, doubled yarns, and hank and cone yarns are examined. Methods for assessing a textile mill's power consumption and comparing it with that of other mills are described. Excessive power consumption can result from low motor efficiencies, use of over-sized motors, worn machinery, bad lubrication, poor maintenance, and many other reasons. Corrective measures are outlined.
