The year 1989 was marked by a slight downward trend in fiber spinning after a record year in 1988. World deliveries, not including material produced in the Soviet Union and China, declined 2.75 percent in short fiber spindles, 13.5 percent in long fiber spindles, and 5 percent in rotors. Globally, short fiber ring spinning progressed to the detriment of rotors. On the whole, 1989 deliveries remain above the 1980 to 1989 average, except for rotors.
