The PLYfil machine was introduced in 1987 as the first of a new generation of spin-assembly-winders for the manufacture of folded yarns. PLYfil reduces the processing steps for making folded yarns to drawing. Fine-spinning, clearing, and assembly winding occur in one continuous operation. Fold-twisting is accomplished on two-for-one twisters. The machine uses air-jet technology to add strength to the yarn. An automated version of the PLYfil machine uses PLYCAT robots to automatically repair end breaks, to piece-up after breaks, and to exchange full assembly wound packages for empty winding tubes. Two types of PLYfil machines are offered. The PLYfil 1000 for spinning cotton and short staple fibers and the PLYfil 2000 for spinning wool and wool blends.
