During the 1980s, dramatically improved yarn tension control and tension measurement systems were developed. These systems are based on electronic, computerized, and automated process control. Automated technology in yarn tensioners has been especially important for the production of high performance fibers such as aramids or high performance polyethylene. The improved technology will radically change common production requirements over the next 10 to 15 years because of its high price/ performance ratio.
