The fundamentals for developing an optical receiver of measured quantities that determines sliver irregularity are provided, and the validity of the theory is discussed. The hyperlogical solution of the radiation transport equation for transmission is used for deriving an equation of sliver fineness. A special method that enable compensation of the variable can be for determining reflectance as a main influence variable. 23 refs.
