The Indian textile industry is using more polyester/acrylic blend yarns. Although these yarns yield lighter weight fabrics than do conventional polyester yarns, acrylic yarns offer lower stiffness and better hand. Increasing the percentage of polyester to more than 65 percent results in severe pilling. The main advantage of the blended yarn is manufacturing cost, which is significantly lower than that of conventional acrylic yarn manufacture. As acrylic fiber costs stabilize, however, this trend should reverse. To increase the market share for blended yarns, manufacturers need to educate consumers as to their properties
