Researchers assessed the retained splice strength (RSS) and retained splice extension (RSE) for pneumatically spliced cotton and cotton blend ring spun, air jet spun, and rotor spun yarns. The breaking strength and elongation of the spliced yarns were less than that of the unspliced yarns. Both cotton and cotton blend ring spun spliced yarns had higher breaking strengths than cotton or cotton blend rotor spun and air jet spun yarns. Spliced cotton ring spun, air jet spun, and rotor spun yarns had similar breaking elongations. Spliced cotton blend ring spun yarns showed the highest RSS and RSE, Whereas the air jet spun yarns showed the lowest RSS and RSE. Differences in yarn structure accounted for the differences in breaking strength and elongation. 3 refs.
