Sticky Cotton Effects on the Carded Spinning Process.

A quantitative investigation into the effects of cotton fiber stickiness on the spinning process evaluated 26 bales of cotton of different grades under hygrometric conditions commonly recommended from preparation up to spinning. Stickiness monitoring along the different processing steps revealed that cleaning and opening operations did not affect stickiness levels. Stickiness did affect carding and all subsequent processing. The number of sticky points carrelated with the degradation observed in sliver, strand, and yarn quality. Sensitivity to stickiness varied among different spinning systems. Abstract.
