Recent innovations in bast fiber applications include reinforced polymers or biocomposite materials based on flax or other bast fibers; degradable packing; foods and nutrients based on linseed; and bio-oils for food, fuel, and cosmetic uses. A study manufactured a satisfactory quality 50/50 flax/cotton yarn with a linear density of 30 tex. Feeding a BD 200 S rotor spinning machine with card sliver did not result in a flax/cotton blend yarn of satisfactory quality. Using only one drawing machine did not impair the spinning process. Rotor speed, opening roller speed, and metric twist factor influenced yarn quality.
